Random Variable – a musical project of Piotr Dąbrowski, based on the exploration of randomness and sequences created on the basis of algorithms (Euclidean sequences, based on Cartesian coordinates, generated on the basis of digitized analog waveforms), mainly created with the use of a modular system. The starting point of the project in live environment translates into improvisation and sounds created “on the spot”, sometimes concentrated within ambient and drone aesthetics, at other times evolving towards rhythmically oriented music, with a large dose of polyrhythm and unconventional patterns. The project is the result of the artist’s fascination with improvisation, the idea of a creative dialogue with the machine and the role of chance in music.
